DPS Student-Athlete Parent Handbook

Are you interested in playing spring sports? If so, You must have passed 5 out 6 classes and no more than 13.5  absences from the first semester of 2025-2026 school year to be eligible to participate in spring sports. Additional items before tryouts: a completed athletic registration on Dragonfly to include but not limited to a current sports  physical completed and signed by the doctor uploaded, a completed concussion and consent to play forms.

Spring sports includes softball, baseball, boys’ tennis, girls’ soccer, and track and field.  Spring sports tryouts will begin on Monday, February 23’26.

In sports news, Monday  January 12, cheerleading, and boys and girls basketball will travel to DSA. The boys will play first. The game will start at 4:45 pm Wrestling will have practice from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm.

Tuesday, January 13,  wrestling will host DSA for 8th grade night. The match will start at 4:45 pm.  Cheerleading, and boys and girls basketball will travel to School for Creative Studies. The girls will play first. The game will start at 4:45 pm.

Wednesday, January 14, wrestling will travel to Neal. The tri- meet will start at 4:45 pm. Cheerleading, and boys and girls basketball will have practice from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm.

Thursday, January  15, cheerleading, and boys’ and girls’ basketball will host Githens. The boys will play first. The game will start at 4:45 pm.  Wrestling will have practice from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm .

Please  review the district-wide stadium policies and procedures, including the clear bag and no re-entry policies, and  they will be enforced. Tickets are $8.00 but free for elementary age students and younger. Middle and Elementary school students must be accompanied by an adult to enter and must remain with them during athletic events.

PURCHASE GAME TICKETS

When purchasing away game tickets you must go to the opposing team’s link and website to purchase tickets. Please be advised Carrington can not control away game ticket sales or errors. 

The cost for game tickets are $8.00.  Elementary age and under are free.  Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag.  Spectators who leave an athletic contest may not be allowed reentry into that contest. All parties must be present at the gate when validating your ticket(s).  Screenshots and or pictures of game tickets are not allowed.  All games are subject to change due to weather and or lack of referees.

All DPS employees with a current DPS identification badge are granted free admission to all DPS athletic events. A current DPS identification badge will display the employee’s current employment location within the district. The DPS identification badge allows for one ticket for that employee only.

Sixth graders can play all sports except football.
