DSA places second at 5A girls tennis state championship

The Durham School of the Arts girls tennis team finished second at the N.C. High School Athletic Association 5A dual-team state championship at the Burlington Tennis Center on Friday.

The Bulldogs lost the championship match 5-1 to East Lincoln. It was the third appearance in the state championship for the Bulldogs, and the first since 2018.

Lucia Harrington won the No. 3 singles match for DSA, beating Maddie Wilkens 6-1, 1-6 [10-1].

Ruby Free was named the Sportsmanship Award winner by the NCHSAA, along with East Lincoln’s Maddie Matz.

East Lincoln’s Gianna LaStella was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship match after winning the No. 5 singles match over Free, 6-4, 6-3.
