DSA, Jordan, Riverside compete at cross country state championships

Runners from Durham Public Schools made a major impact at the 2025 NCHSAA Cross Country State Championships, held at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex, with strong performances from Riverside, Durham School of the Arts, and Jordan across three classifications.

Riverside High: Two Top-25 Finishes and Full Team Depth

The Riverside Pirates placed both boys’ and girls’ teams among the state’s best in the 7A division, highlighted by multiple top-30 individual finishes.

Riverside’s girls packed tightly in the standings, placing five runners in the top 70 to secure one of the strongest team finishes of any 7A program from the Triangle7A-Girls-Results.

The Riverside boys placed all five scoring runners inside the top 65, anchored by Cole Sease’s 23rd-place time of 16:21.53, securing a top-10 team finish in the largest classification of the meet.

DSA qualified both boys’ and girls’ teams for the 5A championships and produced several standout results.

The DSA girls placed their top five runners within one minute of each other, demonstrating tight pack running and balance throughout the lineup — key ingredients that secured another top-10 team result in the 5A division.

Juarez-Lopez led the Bulldogs with a top-30 finish in a loaded 5A field that included programs from across North Carolina.

Jordan High: Top-20 Individual Finish in 8A Boys

The Jordan Falcons proved competitive in the 8A classification, with the boys finishing among the state’s top programs and the girls adding another strong showing.

Lillian Tarr’s performance placed her inside the top 70 in the largest girls’ field of the championship, pacing the Falcons with a strong finish on the challenging Kernersville course.

Blake Yamauchi’s top-20 finish led a tight-knit Jordan team that placed all seven runners under 18:10 — one of the most balanced performances in the 8A boys’ field.
